Now since electronics don't work in the wizarding world, the smart students of Hogwarts have devised a plan to talk to each other, while they're supposedly asleep. No one knows who started this, and it still remains a mystery.

Beneath the ground floor of the castle are found many passages, dungeons, and chambers. Some of these are easily accessible from doors that open off the Entrance Hall. Others are hidden and can only be entered by magical means.

The ground floor hosts a variety of between class tomfoolery. Throw a few words around with some friends, run on down to your next class...

At the top of the marble staircase from the ground floor is the first floor. The Entrance Hall and Great Hall are several stories tall, so they extend into this floor from below.

The most you will hear during the day, along this corridor is the buzzing sound of students conversations and the scuffling of their shoes as they hurry for class.

Dark and cold, this corridor is quite busy during the day.

The corridor below the prefects' bathroom leads from the nearest staircase to the prefects' bathroom on the floor above and has a tapestry hanging about halfway down the corridor. This tapestry conceals a narrower staircase forming a shortcut that leads down two floors, which contains the trick step that students often forget to jump. The bottom of the staircase is also concealed by a tapestry.

A statue of Boris the Bewildered stands in one corridor. The shortest route from the statue to Gryffindor Tower lies in one direction down this corridor, while the nearest staircase leading down to the Fourth Floor lies in the opposite direction.

The sixth floor is always quite cold, damp, and empty. There is always the odd occasion where students will create a rukus in the boys bathroom on this floor.

There is a statue of Lachlan the Lanky just to the right of the stairs leading down to the sixth floor and a suit of armour somewhere along the detour to the Room of Requirement, the entrance to which is across the corridor from a tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy.

Hogsmeade is the only entirely wizarding village in Britain. According to tradition it was founded over a thousand years ago, around the same time as Hogwarts, by Hengist of Woodcroft as he was fleeing persecution by Muggles. It's a picturesque little village of thatched cottages and shops, with enchanted candles hanging in the trees during the holidays.
