And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are The black lake had always interested James. He never knew how water could be so incredibly dark, like a hole leading into the depths of hell. On nice days a light color contrasted with the dark and mirrored the sky, usually a shade of brown. On sunny days when the wind was still the lake was smooth like a stone, no ripples disturbed the surface. It was like silver glass. James found his eyes drifting from the frog in front of him to take a glance at the black lake. Today the picture perfect lakeside view wasn't happening, instead it was blotchy and grey.
A sharp chilly rain flew like blades along with the wind, piercing any open skin when someone left the safety of any kind of shelter. The skies overhead were a pale grey color, symbolizing a coming rainstorm, and perhaps colder weather, with more wind. The clouds were as grey as a stormy sea, or grey mashed potatoes, as it loomed over like an angry curtain. No sign of sun with the ability to breach the resisting coverage. One would think any amount of clouds would be gone within a short time judging how quickly the wind was traveling. It had been raining all week, and though his hopes of a lack of rain on this very day had been crushed, James managed to look optimistically upon the situation. As optimistically as he could, anyways, there wasn't much good to cold, or grey, or anything about the weather. But truthfully, he was a bit occupied at the moment.
Not so much occupied as he was distracted. He found his mind straying away from the chill. He was carrying his school bag, filled with parchments from the lessons he had taken last year, or even from his first year. James wasn¢t really organized in that particular category, but he knew that all these were his, simply because all the letters scribbled on those parchments held his unmistakable writing style. Chicken scratch. As he took a few seconds to search what was in the bag, a piece of parchment flew outside the bag courtesy of the wind and started to make its way to the black lake. James started to run in order to catch it, only to slip on a pool of mud and land head first inside the black lake.
Fifteen minutes previous to the situation, James had been trapped inside the common room, hiding from whatever first years were asking for directions, wondering if it was actually possible to die of boredom. Due to the absence of events occurring at that very moment, he had chosen to deepen his ponderings into a train of thought, and came up with an answer: yes. A dry spell of tasks for the mind could cause one to bash their head upon a stone, tree, or any other flat surface, as if it was better than simply waiting around for what was hopefully coming. The unfortunate would continue until a large amount of brain cells had suffered an unnecessary death. With a good portion of deceased brain cells, and the living cells probably attending funerals, one was doomed to suffer from, well, being an idiot. Images of moronic students had filled James¢ mind. Students who stumbled, tripped, and crashed into others, some accidentally running into trees. So yes, he had concluded, it was definitely possible to die from boredom.
See where that had gotten him?
Oh, the rain was a terrible thing. In some instances, such as a hot and humid summer afternoon where the clouds stood like soldiers awaiting an order to resemble the air's stillness, rain was wonderful. In his current situation, however, James would have to have chosen the hot and humid summer day, where he wouldn't have had nearly as much trouble with those blasted muddy surfaces. Though a few days previous to the event it had been a hot and humid summer afternoon, and the man would have easily preferred the current weather: cold and blustery with hardly any signs of dry ground because of the rain that pounded it into a carpet of slippery grass. It was then that James realized just how cold he really was, in how much pain he was, and how idiotic it had been to come to the black lake during this storm.
Begrudgingly, he got out of the lake, thankful to have left his bag before plunging inside the cold waters. His eyes traced the parchment as it flew in the completely opposite direction, now away from the lake.
"You tricky little..." First post yay. Hope it¢s good!

[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Though it was only the second day of term, Ellicot Wood was already frustrated by her classes. She didn’t always hate classes. Just.. Potions. And Arithmancy. And Divination. Well, pretty much everything except for Herbology and Transfiguration. Even still, Herbology had been particularly frustrating today, as a first year had botched an earlier lesson, causing issues throughout her own class, namely the presence of four pixies that were taking particular delight in annoying the N.E.W.T. level students. The number of students pursuing Herbology to a N.E.W.T. level was never very large, which meant less of a challenge for the pixies to get all the way around the greenhouse. Elli herself had experienced three tugs of her hair, one glove swiped, and twice a pixie untied the sash of her dress.
Finally, the professor gave up and dismissed the class a bit early, only to let them out into the rain. After ramming her things into her bag, she slung it over her shoulder and stepped out into the light misting rain. With a sigh she retied her dress once again and slipped her wand from her bag, waving it lazily over her head to produce a small shield charm, a trick she had picked up in her first year as a substitute for an umbrella. Despite the charm, the rain had intensified enough to cause her golden hair to go limp, looking more like straw as she slipped her feet out of her shoes, tucking them under her arm and setting off.
Elli had always liked walking barefoot, especially if there were puddles to splash in or mud to squish between her toes. She enjoyed puddles, but not so much the rain. Her lips twisted into a cross expression, still peeved from the pixies, and even more displeased with the weather.
The seventh-year was hoping to avoid getting too wet, as her dress was rather light in color, an off-white fabric with a large butterfly print. She had never been one for jewelry, for a number of reasons. Firstly, her mother had always been very hesitant about jewelry, particularly necklaces and forbode Elli from wearing them for the majority of her life. One would think that the rebellious nature and desire to act out would spurn the girl to wear four necklaces at a time, but it wasn’t the case. She tried a necklace on once in her second-year, but felt as if she might suffocate. She didn’t completely hate the idea of necklaces. Perhaps someday she’d find a guy that would give her a necklace. A drapey one. The idea made her snort, breaking the previous sneer as she looked up from her mud-stained toes to see a certain Gryffindor running past the lake.
Had she not cracked a smile at the thought of a doting boyfriend, she certainly would have smiled to see James Fitzroy chasing after what seemed to be a piece of parchment. She altered her direction slightly to go towards him rather than the castle.
It wasn’t surprising to see him there. Being by the lake was her favourite place, and therefore, she could always find one of her boys there. Or perhaps it was her favourite place because she could always find one of her boys there. She made a mental note to stop referring to them as “her boys” as both James and Dom had a tendency to protest being called that way. Whether it was because they were too masculine to be possessed or because they didn’t want to be grouped together, she would never know.
She stopped once she was close enough to call out, “Has the Warlock lost his hairy heart?” She held her shoes behind her back, rocking forward on her toes, biting back a smile.

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are So much for finding something worthwhile to do. Even the common room was better than this. James took one last glance up at the sky, seeing the clouds in even more storming grey fury, hearing the rain hit the ground heavier that it was before, feeling more and more raindrops hit him on the shoulders. It was enough to make him want to scamper and hide under a tree. However, a pleasant, warm common room full of people playing games sounded nice. James would even prefer the dull, dusty library over the great outdoors at this moment. The man couldn't help but let out a few profanic words under his breath, though he could've shouted them. For all he knew no one was outside right now.
A clap of thunder roared overhead, sounding similar to what the Gryffindor imagined a tiger sounded like. James¢ sharp blue eyes squinted as they traveled up to the sky. Great, now it was thundering, and soon the lightning would flash across the sky. Another forbidden word slipped from his vocals, annoyance the only word to describe the quiet tone. Really, the man liked thunderstorms. There was some odd attraction to the natural noise and light show that kept him awake at nights. Perhaps it was the thrill he got from knowing the danger of the storms, and the fact that Hogwarts was seemingly unaffected by such things? However, liking storms was very much different from liking rain, or wetness, two things that he disliked with a passion. Uncontrolled water in general was kept off his list of 'My Most Favorite Things'. With uncontrolled water came the possibility of drowning, and even the thought of that made his heart race.
James couldn't see his reflection, but he didn't need it to figure out what he looked like. His hair was plastered to his face with precipitation,. which was a shame, as he preferred to keep it nice. His legs were probably subtracting from both his posture and height. James felt quite unappealing at the moment, which, naturally reduced his confidence. Although a reflection would have been nice to fix himself up, he would probably cringe at his current appearance. But, then again, if he had seen himself he would be able to see for himself that he didn't look quite as unattractive as he felt. Really, it was much better than he thought it to be. Although vanity never quite overtook a large portion of his personality, he felt the need to make himself look more presentable at the moment. Especially now that he had company.
Ellicot Wood had been his best friend for many years now, he had been able to spot her coming close to him from a distance. Blimey, this was going from bad to worse in a matter of seconds. James didn¢t enjoy being made a fool of, and the fact that Elli was here only meant that he¢d have to conjure up some kind of story to cover up the fact that he had slipped on muddy ground and fell inside the lake. Elli¢s words puzzled him for a second, realizing that she had probably witnessed how stupid he had been. As he raised himself from inside the lake, now soaked to the bone, he realized how cold he had been and how idiotic to brave this weather without any sort of coat.
The fact that her comment implied that he was using dark magic much like the man in the story didn¢t help improve his attitude at all. ”I was just feeling too hot.” he replied, opening his arms as if he was introducing her to the lake for the first time. ”Had to cool down somehow.” he said, though he quickly looked away. He had always found it hard to lie in front of Elli, avoiding her glance in order to hide the fact that he was actually feeling ashamed and embarrassed.
”What are you doing here, Elli?” he asked, feeling more like a prefect interrogating a student who had just been caught past curfew rather than a best friend asking a normal question to another. ”You¢ll be soaked in a few minutes, why don¢t you join me?” he asked, a playful smile finally appearing on his face before he started to swim in the lake. Hope it¢s good!

[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Elli continued forward now, seeing what she hadn’t seen before; James was stepping out of the lake. A light eyebrow raised quizzically as she walked faster, her feet squelching in the mud as she peered into the lake, the surface dotting with ripples from each raindrop, causing microscopic waves. She wasn’t sure what she was looking for, perhaps a friend in the water, though more likely a mermaid or grindylow. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought, as well as a drizzle of rain running down the back of her neck as she had lost concentration on her shield charm. She refocused and turned her attention back to James, who now seemed to be coming up with an excuse for looking like a drowned puppy.
“Oh yes, too hot,” she nodded with a false look of agreement, her eyebrows furrowed and lips pouted out. She cracked a smile and stepped forward, now standing beside him, the shield charm above her head coming up to his nose. She reached forward and pinched the elbow of his shirt, feeling the wet fabric between her fingers before dropping her hand to the side again. “I’m sorry, professor, I was just leaving class! It won’t happen again,” she answered with a twinge of sarcasm to her voice.
She looked away, across the lake, trying to get a hold on her thoughts. She envied her brother for his ability to do so with such ease. It wasn’t so much her thoughts that she was trying to figure out at this moment, more her emotions. She hadn’t always liked James. Well, okay. That lasted about twenty-four hours before he broke into the shell of her strange, lonely, little world. They had been decently inseparable ever since, even going so far as spending parts of the holidays together. Even though they had seen each other during the holidays, she had still managed to miss him.
The splashing of the water broke her from her thoughts as she looked to where James was now standing, or swimming, rather. In the lake. The pit of the Gryffindor’s stomach dropped. Sure, brave. Gulp. Elli’s eyes widened as James asked her to join him. Her head shook automatically as she took a step back, “No thanks, I’m still dry,” the words had no sooner left her lips than the shield above her head disappeared with a pop. Though the shield was invisible, the change was clear as her dress began to dampen and water dripped from the tips of her hair.
She looked down to her wand, wondering just how fruitless it would be to produce another charm. Judging by the way her dress was now sticking to her back, she decided it would be rather ridiculous. But that didn’t mean she was going to get in the water. She squeezed her toes in the mud, mind racing. It wasn’t so bad to stand there in the rain with her dress sticking to her, right? She had nothing to hide. Ha.
It was the lake. The black lake. The very location she feared more than anything in the world. The very thing that made her question her existence as a Gryffindor. “No thanks, I wouldn’t want to mess up my hair,” she said dryly as her hair was plastered across her face and dripping down her back. The sarcasm was clear, especially since Elli could hardly care less what her hair looked like. .

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are Merlin save him. There was no way Elli wasn¢t making a fuss about this in the common room later on, and he wouldn¢t be able to survive the humiliation, no matter how funny it was meant to be. How was he to accept the fact that all the Gryffindors were going to laugh with him, the great James Fitzroy slipping on muddy ground and falling inside the lake? There was no way out of this. He figured that he could transform himself into a rock and be done with it all, but for that he needed his wand which was safely inside his bag. He had learned the hard way that his wand didn¢t work underwater, the painful memory of almost drowning on a dare in his third year still latched to some part of his brain. Perhaps this was the reason that he didn¢t want Elli around. How on earth was he going to explain that he wasn¢t so brave around water?
The woman in front of him was beautiful to say the least. Blonde hair matched her green orbs that occasionally shone brighter than the sun whenever she was smiling. Such beauty was only recorded in fairy tales, as he had once thought, and it had made him uncomfortable, at least during his fifth year. It had taken a great deal of self control to see Ellicot as his best friend and not something more, though her occasional flirting with James Potter felt like a noose that was tied around his neck. However, he had figured that he had only felt uncomfortable with that only because they were both his friends and it felt awkward. Stepping out of the lake to greet her in a rather annoyed manner, James felt like a thousand knives were piercing his body. He was really cold, and he could tell that sooner or later he would find himself in the hospital wing again. The year had only just started and he was already on his way there. He would have to get back in the water if he wanted to stay warm at least for now. His breathing stopped abruptly when Elli touched his shirt, but he figured that it happened because he was so cold. The noose he felt being tightened around his neck what nothing to do with it.
Elli¢s next words made him raise an eyebrow. ”Wait.” he said, raising a hand to scratch his chin, the look of bewilderment evident in his face after a few seconds of pondering. ”We had a class today?!” he cried out, raising his hands in the air in exasperation. The man had never been good with class schedules. ”Was it herbology?” he asked, hoping that she would say no, but he figured that there was no way Elli would have come to the lake unless she had been close by to begin with. Though he had promised to himself that he was going to attend each class that he needed to pass with flying colors in order to become an Auror, he was already finding himself behind everyone else. He shook his head and shivered. Okay, he could feel his heart pounding inside his chest in protest. He was really cold, and he needed to jump back into the lake. So, without any kind of warning to her, he just jumped inside the lake again.
He was feeling warmer now, though not that much. He couldn¢t help but imagine standing close to the fireplace in the common, feeling the subtle fire his wand often emitted at his touch, a glass of firewhiskey… However, all those things meant that he would have to go back to the common room that would be ready to laugh at him, a common room that fifteen minutes prior to this situation had been the lair of boredom. The raindrops still hit his head as he tried to keep himself afloat, looking at her as she denied his suggestion. No sooner had she denied than her charm faded and she started to get wet. He stifled a laugh, trying to keep his mind focused on the task of actually not drowning.
Her next words made him swim to the edge of the lake, climbing back up, the feeling of knives piercing his body returning, only this time ever stronger. ”Since when do you care about your hair?” he asked, shivering and shaking visibly. ”Listen, you can be cold on your own or we can be cold together.” he said and moved towards her, making sure not to slip on the muddy ground again. ”You aren¢t afraid, are you, my lioness?” he said, a playful smile on his face, as he hugged himself in order to stay warm. Hope it¢s good!

[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Elli rolled her eyes as James realized she had come from class. She couldn’t help but let out a laugh. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m taking N.E.W.T. level Herbology.” She watched him curiously as he waded in the dark water, his body disappearing right beneath the surface, as if he was just a set of shoulders and a head bobbing there, which was admittedly rather funny. She couldn’t recall ever seeing James so eager to be in the lake. She had spent many days beside the lake with him, but never in it. No, thank you.
As he approached the edge of the lake, she took a small step back, rolling her eyes once again at the comment about her hair. It had always been tough for her to get a grasp of the “usual” sense of humor, and her sarcasm tended to be so dry that it was sometimes mistaken as.. not..sarcasm.. However, James usually understood her intentions and attempts at humor, especially since she clearly had strands of hair plastered across her forehead and the rest was clumping together in the rain. So she just stared at him, a bit confused and bewildered by the miscommunication. Unless he, too, was joking. She offered a weak laugh, but he was already moving on, inviting her to be cold with him.
She could see the slight movement of his body that implied that he was sincerely cold. She was tempted to throw her arms around him to warm him up, but the thought made her blush. Her physical affection was still a bit confused where it was concerned with James.
She squeezed the mud through her toes once again as he came towards her, her cheeks reddening from the cold and from blushing. “Afraid? Me? Why, that’s preposterous. I just.. I’m just.. I’ve already bathed today.” she produced as a rather poor excuse, fighting back a laugh at her own ridiculousness.
She cracked a smile anyways, hearing my lioness[/] replay in her head. She had never really been much of a lion. She made a note to herself to figure out what sort of animal she would have been and reached out a slender, pale hand to James’ and gave it a squeeze. “You know I can’t swim,” she said with a sympathetic smile, wondering just how far James would go to get her into the water. .

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are This year hadn¢t started well for him at all. While James wasn¢t the most punctual of students, he still remembered to go to his classes. Now, however, he seemed to have forgotten that he had been supposed to attend Herbology, a subject he had to pass with Exceeds Expectations if he still wanted to be an Auror. Granted, it was right after summer and he would have to take some time to adjust to the constant classes. He had spent most of the summer with Elli touring London. Admittedly, those days had been the best summer days ever, but he could have done without his mother¢s stare whenever he mentioned Elli around her. It seemed as if the woman knew something that he didn¢t and it always made him annoyed. ”Well, bollocks. I need this bloody class for my N.E.W.Ts as well.” he said, annoyed with himself for a second.
He had forgotten about Herbology, but he could mend the damage he had caused to his future career by making sure he would start following the class once again. He would also have to follow Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Charms as well. Needless to say, he needed an almost perfect grade in all of them, though he was certain that he had the Outstanding already in the bag for Defense against the dark arts. The others though, he didn¢t even want to think about studying for them, especially transfiguration. He had never been good at the subject, in fact, he was still surprised by passing said subject in his O.W.Ls with Exceeds Expectations. This year had just begun and James was already feeling as if he was falling down a hole of darkness with no obvious escape and lots of homework.
Had James not been so self obsessed about being so cold at that very moment, he would have realized that Ellicot had been sarcastic. He had the ability of understanding her intentions flawlessly, or so he believed, yet he had been focusing on the fact that he was almost freezing to death. Her weak smile however made him smile back genuinely. It might have been easier for him to just grab his wand and produce some heat in order to dry himself up. However, he had been raised to believe that magic was a privilege and that it shouldn¢t be used for everything. Thus, it never crossed his mind that he could have just done that and not stand there, freezing and shaking.
He raised an eyebrow at her blushing cheeks, smiling faintly. He had to admit that her blushing made her cute. He figured that the constant rain would have made any girl look much less attractive than she usually looked, but the Elli in front of his eyes wasn¢t unattractive in the slightest. In all honesty, she seemed even more beautiful, which meant that she was a natural born beauty. Well, he had figured that many years ago. The rain had made them both look worse for wear, but he rather liked it. The weather was making them raw, turning them truthful, not that he had any reason to doubt they had been anything but truthful to one another. Perhaps his fall inside the lake and the fact that everything was turning out to be worse than he had expected today was making his thoughts more cryptic than usual.
He tried to stifle a laugh at her words. He couldn¢t help but smile, though, and looked away for a second. There was something he was forgetting, something important it seemed. Elli was trying to dodge his suggestion for whatever reason she felt was important, and James couldn¢t quite put his finger on it. Her hand touched his own and he turned his head, looking at their hands together and then back at her face. There were times when he found himself just feeling lost in her green eyes, but her words made him forget about that. Elli didn¢t know how to swim. Merlin, he had known that for ages, how could he have forgotten that?
”Oh. I know.” he said, kindly, his eyes falling down to their hands. He was still touching hers, his fingers cradling her own in a safe and affectionate way. ”I can teach you.” he said, shivering from the cold and then his eyes fixed on her own for good. ”I won¢t let you go. We¢ll just swim by the edge of the lake, you¢ll be safe. I promise, I¢ll never let you go.” he said with a smile, never realizing that his words probably meant more to him than he dared admit or even acknowledge.
Hope it¢s good!

[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] “I can catch you up on it,” Elli said with a nonchalant shrug. It wasn’t an offer, it was fact. It was how things worked with them. Elli helped with Transfiguration and Herbology, and James helped her with DADA, and they figured out the rest together. It was just how it had always been. She smiled, watching the water drip down his forehead, past his bright blue eyes. Such a different blue than the lake. The lake was so cold and dark, but somehow, James’ eyes had always been much more comforting and light, like a breath rather than the suffocating of the lake.
The words that came out of James’ mouth so effortlessly made Elli’s stomach twist, her insides feeling so full and so empty at the same time. “And you want to do it today? You’re colder than a dementor, James,” she replied with genuine care, putting her hand up to his face to feel if he was maybe feverish or ill or something to make him act this way. So… dare she say, romantic? Not in the way that meant a deeper relationship, but romantic as in something out of a novel.
Feeling the slight chill in his cheek was a bit concerning, but there was also the bit of warmth, reaching out to touch her fingers. That happy, bright, inviting warmth. It was strange to think of James as anything other than a warm person. It was just his nature. Perhaps that’s why everything felt so off, the way he was trying to coax her into swimming. “It’s so cold, and it’s raining, and neither of us are dressed properly...” she trailed off looking at the water, then looked back at James, seeing his blue eyes watching her expectantly, “I’ll obviously want to put on a much nicer dress,” she added, sticking out her tongue in a childish way.
In fact, she did not own a swimsuit. It had long been her excuse to get out of swimming if invited. She didn’t even like taking baths if she could avoid it. Her thought process shifted swiftly and she was already extracting her wand from her bag, still having one hand in James’. Her bag was soaked through and she was decently sure that the parchment within was not a roll which she had charmed to be waterproof. She hoped, for her sake and James’, that the ink would stay.
After taking out her wand, she let her bag slip off her shoulder as she flicked her wand, muttering something under her breath, producing a small bundle of Bluebell flames atop their clasped hands. For some reason, her bluebell flames had always been more purple-tinted, like a light lavender, which had earned her a bit of ridicule when first learning the charm, but she’d grown to love the gentle flutter of the lilac flames, especially now, as she dropped her wand carefully to the ground and brought her other hand up to cup the flames. It was really lovely magic. Magic that warmed her heart, as well as her hands.
She looked up at James, her lips twisted in concentration as she thought, wondering if she would really have to get into the lake today. “I know you’d keep me safe. I do trust you, you know. It’s not like we just met. I mean, I know everything about you, Peter,” she managed to get through her whole little speech in a serious tone until the last word when she broke into a smile. “Really though, you are wonderful. Even when your hair is stuck to your forehead.” this time she laughed aloud, suddenly aware that she was completely soaked, but also happy.

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are It had always been that way. Ellicot would help him with Transfiguration and Herbology and he would help her with Defense against the dark arts. Truly, James knew that he wouldn¢t have made it that far without her. Heck, he knew for a fact that had it not been for her, he wouldn¢t have even set foot in the O.W.Ls for Transfiguration and Herbology. Really, his knowledge on the subjects was minimal, the fact that he had managed to get Exceeds Expectations had come as much of a shock to him as it had come to the rest of his friends. James could easily protect himself and others against curses but ask him about the different uses of a mandrake root or how to transform a glass into a cup and he¢d just stare blankly as if magic didn¢t exist in the world and he was nothing but a plain old muggle. ”Really?” he questioned as she offered to help him with Herbology. ”You¢re a gem, Elli, I swear, I don¢t know what I¢d do without you.” he added with a kind smile.
There was a hint of logic in Elli¢s words. James was feeling way too cold and while the black lake had managed to keep him warm so far, he knew for a fact that diving back in was going to be a suicidal attempt right now. ”I¢m not that cold, Elli, you need to stop worrying so much about me.” he said, lying completely. Was it so difficult to accept the fact that he enjoyed knowing that someone cared about him? He was usually the one protecting others, thus the fact that someone tried to protect him in whatever sense was unfamiliar to him, but certainly not unwelcome. ”I¢m sure they¢ll have reserved a bed for me in the hospital wing already, it¢s what happens every year.” he joked. Elli¢s hand on his face made him shiver a bit, eyeing it for a bit curiously before he turned his attention back to her. ”I¢ll be fine.” he said, looking at her up and down.
James remembered that his mother had once called him a spitfire. True enough, the highly energetic and easily angered man had taken a liking to that term, though his father had gone on to say that James resembled more a fire that would never perish. James had taken that to heart, deciding from that point on that no darkness would obscure his light or destroy his bright smile. He would always be the fire that would warm others around him, the ones he called friends or family. ”Fine. Whenever you feel like it.” he said, pointing a finger at her and looking at her in a ¡you won¢t get out of this¢ way. He smiled playfully, however, when she mentioned a different dress and winked at her. ”How about that dress you picked during the summer when we were together? I really liked that one.” he said.
He wasn¢t sure if he owned a swimsuit. He knew his father had one hidden somewhere back home, so he¢d have to send an owl to him in order to get it. Oh well, he didn¢t enjoy sending owls back home, the sense of freedom Hogwarts gave him had always been much more welcome than his mother¢s teary embrace. Sacrifices had to be made, however, especially when they were meant for Elli. He raised an eyebrow when Elli pulled out her wand. Okay, he wasn¢t in the mood for her transfiguring his ears into a donkey¢s again. He really couldn¢t even begin to fathom the humiliation he would have to endure if he entered the common room looking like that again.
He widened his eyes when the purple flames appeared close to their hands, his lips forming a smile, for the warmth was already reaching him. This was great, why hadn¢t he thought of that before? Elli never ceased to amaze him. His eyes fell back to his bag that was safely underneath a tree close by. He blushed slightly at her next words. She had just called him wonderful. He smiled, a little bit awkwardly, but then his smile faded and his eyes widened. ”Oh no, is it that bad?” he cried out, his hands rising to his hair in order to fix it, which was almost impossible seeing as it was raining. He gave up a few seconds later, sighing in exasperation. He turned to look at the tree, and motioned for Elli to follow him. ”We¢d be warmer there, I don¢t want you catching a cold because I¢m being stupid and stubborn.” he said with a smile, moving to the tree and retrieving his wand from his bag. He muttered the same words as Elli had minutes before, the bright blue flames appearing in front of him as he sat on the muddy ground underneath the tree.
”We¢d be warmer if we hugged as well.” he said, casually, as if it was something best friends would do out in the open, that didn¢t imply anything else at all. Hope it¢s good!

[/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Elli’s cheeks turned a bit more pink as he mentioned the dress. She was honestly surprised that he remembered, as she had sort of pushed the memory out of her mind. One of the many days they had spent together exploring London, James had somehow persuaded her (perhaps under the influence of the cheap beers from the Underground) to try on a new dress. She had mentioned wanting a new dress, and they had discussed (jokingly on her part) going to a club. And so she went through about ten dresses. She really loved dresses, but had never tried anything so.. sexy. Each dress got shorter and tighter until she finally stepped out of the dressing room backwards, revealing her bare back to James, a sign for him to zip her in.
The reaction from James was enough to make her take the dress home. She suspected that he had just been nice about it, but then again, she could usually tell when he was lying. Nevertheless, the dress was still in the back of her wardrobe, never worn, a sleek bandage dress with cutouts and straps. She smirked. “I swear you only made me buy that monstrosity just to see how daft I really am” she teased, avoiding looking at him. “I don’t see that excuse-for-a-dress coming out of the wardrobe. Well, unless Hogwarts finally decides to throw the Skanks Ball I’ve been begging for,” she said with a wrinkled nose and a smile.
She watched as he tried to fix his hair, giggling as she teased her finger through the tip of the flames before she closed her hand around it, extinguishing the flames with a small puff and a whisp of lilac smoke. She reached her hands up and started pushing his bangs around, biting her lower lip in mock concentration before pushing his hair upwards in one swift movement, leaving it sticking up at all angles which sent her into hearty laughter as she bent to pick up her bag. “How do the ladies resist you?” she asked as she picked up her wand and slipped it back into her bag and picked up her shoes. She dropped them under the tree beside James and raised an eyebrow. “But what if I want to catch a cold so that you’re forced to stay by my side and take care of me?” she asked, pushing out her lip in a pout as she obliged anyway, sitting down as he conjured his own flames, bright blue, the same shade as his eyes.
The comment about being warmer if hugging made Ellicot smirk as she turned to face him. “Any excuse to get your hands on me, eh, Fitzroy?” she joked, leaning in anyways, resting her head on his shoulder as she had done so many times before, but never quite so damp. She picked her head up and looked around suddenly, one side of her mouth twitching downward in a frown. She had suddenly remembered that she could transfigure something into a blanket, but she didn’t have enough of any material except grass, and that hadn’t gone so well the times she had tried before. “No blanket,” she muttered under her breath, trying to remind herself to put an Undetectable Expansion Charm and Waterproof Charm on her new bag as she settled back against the tree.

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are How could he forget that dreadful day? How could he forget that he had just sat there, watching her try all those dresses, watching her transform in front of his eyes into something more than Elli, his best friend? How could he forget that he had briefly managed to brush away the thought of kissing her only for her to reveal her bare back to him? It had taken a huge amount of concentration and self control to deny the feelings that undoubtedly all that cheap beer had created? To be honest, James didn¢t enjoy watching women with sexy dresses all that much, in fact, he had seen quite enough to realize that he didn¢t even care anymore. But seeing Elli in that thing had awakened something inside him, something that he had long before hidden deeply inside himself.
He hadn¢t been extremely comfortable with her last dress choice, but he had probably spent a good amount of time looking at her with wide eyes and mouth wide open. He had never seen Elli like that, he had never believed that someone so beautiful could at the same time be so sexy. Perhaps his reaction had been what had pushed her to buy that dress. He hadn¢t seen her wear that, though, ever again, which was something he was extremely proud of. For some reason, he wanted to be the only one that would ever lay eyes on that dress. Call it jealousy, call it over protectiveness, there was one thing that mattered. James was having it this way, or no way at all. He smiled playfully at her words, winking for a second before replying. "Maybe you shouldn¢t have bought it, then, I didn¢t exactly make you buy it. If you disliked it so much, then maybe you should have chosen something else, everything had looked lovely on you." He let out a laugh at the mention of a Skanks¢ ball, scratching his right cheek. "I¢m not sure if the professors will ever agree to that thing, it will only just be a ball for the Slytherins."
James frowned playfully when she played with his wet hair. He hated when people touched his hair, even by accident. Being so self conscious about the way his air looked, he always needed to keep the golden locks in check, and people ruining their perfect style irritated him to no end. However, with Elli, it was different. He didn¢t dare admit that he actually liked the fact that she played with his hair, even though she was probably making it seem even worse than it already was, which was saying a lot. He let out a chuckle when she raised his hair with one swift movement, turning around furiously and trying to fix the mess she had done anxiously as if his life depended on it. "They normally don¢t!" he let out, laughing. He had traced the sarcasm in Elli¢s joke, but he had always liked to play the innocent and unfamiliar to sarcasm victim around her. He turned to look at the shoes as she left them next to him, raising an eyebrow and then looking up to her face. Did she honestly have to do the adorable pout face right now? James had never been able to say no to that face and he quickly shook his head in order to look away. "You trust me with healing spells?" he joked, before he sighed and looked at her again. "Fine, you know I¢d do anything for you. And you don¢t have to catch a cold for me to care for you, I¢m basically by your side all the time, Elli, whenever you need me." he said with a kind smile and a wink, as she sat down next to him.
Her comment made him smirk a bit seductively and a bit playfully as well. "Why, Wood, does it make you uncomfortable? I¢ve been trying to get my hands on you for seven years already, you should have known by now I¢ll always take my chances whenever I see fit." he joked. He put one arm around her waist and brought her even closer, finally relaxing and not shaking anymore. He kissed her forehead as the bright blue flames managed to bring forth some much needed warmth. He raised an eyebrow as he looked at her face, the tiny frown appearing on her lips confusing him. Had he done something wrong? Instictively, when he heard what she had said and figured that she meant transfiguring something into a blanket, his hands covered his ears protectively. There was no way he was walking around with a freaking blanket on his face. Donkey ears were one thing, this was a whole different matter. A few seconds later, he opened his bag and gave her a bunch of parchments that he could tell were from his first year. He seriously needed to sort these parchments one day. He hugged her again and kissed her forehead one more time.
"Here. Do what you do best." Hope it¢s good!
