[rs=2] | "What, so I'm expected to ramble on about myself like some sort of narcissistic suck-up? Oh, fantastic, I can see that a lot of carefully calculated consideration goes into selecting students here. Whatever. Uh, I'm Darren, clearly. I'm seventeen, six foot one, blood type O, a Capricorn...any of this working for you? I can't imagine what I'm supposed to tell you that will magically have you believe that you simply must have me for your school. Huh. Magic. Eight years since I first showed signs, six since I started school, and I'm still not used to it. I spent my life absorbed in facts. Nothing about what I, all of us, are able to do sits well with me. It shouldn't be possible. Even when I was a toddler I strayed toward National Geographic rather than storybooks about fairies and talking animals. Oh, yeah, I should probably mention that I was raised by Muggles. Pathetic orphan sob story and all that. My aunt's a Squib, so I guess they're not total Muggles, but the woman never bothered to tell me about my parents. Or me, for that matter. I have an older sister, and I do mean much older as she's near thirty, and she never showed signs of magic; takes after my mother, I guess, as she was a Muggle as well. I was the lucky one and got my father's genes, despite what my aunt anticipated. What? No, not sarcasm. Well, partly, I suppose. It's not that I wish I wasn't a wizard. I enjoy the studies; it's a whole history that I previously knew nothing about, and there's much to learn. I just still find myself wondering at times if I'm actually sane. But I digress. I honestly don't know what else you want me to tell you. I'm an antisocial bookworm, I wish I had been born in an era far before my own, and I'm allergic to rabbits. That's it, that's my story. So am I in, or what?" |
