Character's full name: jessica nicole greyback Character's age: sixteen House/Occupation: Gryffindor Ability applying for: werewolf Roleplay sample:
Every full moon was a struggle. At least it was a little better now that she was taking the Wolfsbane Potion, but it seemed as though it wasn't working quite as well as it should. Sure, Jessica now remembered (for the most part) what had happened when she switched back into a human afterward, but her mind still felt a little crazy during the time she was actually a wolf. Well, a wolf-type creature anyway. She hadn't realized what her father was doing when he bit her. All she knew was that she had been away from her mother for a while when she was five and had to spend her time with someone who was a complete stranger to her. She remembered her mother's ineffective yells and pleas to let the child go, and Fenrir had just walked out. Like there was nothing to it. She remembered pain and how awkward it was to be bitten by a person. There was barely any recovery time. She slapped some home-made bandages (towels and rags) on her wounds and was pushed back into her mother's arms with no real warning. She assumed that her mother had known what was going on because Sloan looked horrified and immediately healed her properly.
The first shift was excruciating. There it was, the transformation complete. She didn't remember any of it. She was just a child, so why should her mother bother with the Wolfsbane Potion? But there was a cage still in the house where she'd been kept during the full moon, until she was too big and allowed outside.
Things were better now. She was at Hogwarts. Jessica snuck off to the forest and waited. The full moon hit her and Jessica made the transformation that she still thought was painful. It should be. Her bones were literally re-forming every time this happened. Sometimes she ran around with the other werewolves, but tonight she was on her own. She knew what she was now. Her mind was there but it felt itchy and adventurous. It was almost like an adrenaline rush. She had to move now. Her legs carried her, running on all fours. She killed a few rabbits and knew she was going to have a sore stomach in the morning, but that didn't mean the animal in her cared. It carried on as though she would never be human again. As usual, Jessica got into a few fights with larger animals when she ran into them. Her human self wasn't sure how she could tell the difference between something that she didn't know and the other werewolves that she was familiar with, but she challenged anything that was unfamiliar. She figured it had to do with some instinct.
At the end of the long night, Jessica emerged from the trees, fully human again and feeling sick. Her body was sore and she knew she'd have new bruises to explain later, but that didn't matter. Right now she wanted sleep. So she headed to her dorm and found her bed, without even bothering to clean up.

Character's full name: dominic tavish wood Character's age: seventeen House/Occupation: slytherin Ability applying for: occlumency Roleplay sample: Here it came again. The warm feeling started as his extremities, first in his fingertips, inching its way upwards. He had trained himself to dislike this feeling; the way his very being started to lift upwards, as if every weight he had ever had were being lifted from his chest at once. But he wouldn’t let it get that far.
His eyelids closed over his murky blue eyes, clearing all thoughts. He had been trained for this, to focus on nothingness, which for most people, would be whiteness or darkness, but for Dom, if one could assign a colour to it, it took the form of a deep blue, like the softest velvet and the hardest stone all at once. He slipped into the emptiness, which consumed him and emptied him at the same time, causing his breath to catch in his chest as he felt the light backing out of his fingers and toes. Very good the auror’s voice echoed, so clear but so distant through the emptiness that enveloped the boy.
He felt the sensation disappear completely and he opened his eyes again, only to see the auror taking a second stance. The sensation started again, this time at the roots of his hair, sinking downwards into his skull, trying to delve deeper into his thoughts. Dom resisted, his jaw clenching shut as his eyes closed once again and he cleared his mind. Thoughts, sounds, sensations slipped away like water down a drain leaving nothing. Nothing. The intruder fell through the barrier of the mind, into the emptiness, which instantly consumed it.
Though the intruder was gone, the emptiness began to overwhelm its space, spreading throughout the rest of the body. Dom’s eyes snapped open. His surroundings whirled into view, his ears ringing, and he realized that he was on all fours, his chest heaving, trying to breathe as if he had just drowned.
That’s enough for today the auror’s voice came through the ringing of his ears, muffled, but proud. Cold sweat beaded on the Slytherin’s face as he sat back on his heels, wiping his sweaty palms on his jean-clad knees. He had been warned about the dangers of Occlumency. The ability to slip away completely. It wasn’t something to be taken lightly, nor to be played with. Nevertheless, Dom would go to bed, plagued by the thoughts and worries of the day, wanting to slip away into sleep, tempted by the sweet, cold, warm, nothingness…

Character's full name: ellicot farah wood Character's age: seventeen House/Occupation: gryffindor Ability applying for: occlumency Roleplay sample: No worries. Not a care in the world. As these feelings crept through Elli’s body, a small smile flickered across her lips, basking for one brief moment in the sensation of carelessness. However, just as every time, as soon as that second faded, Elli felt her mind and body separate as someone else entered the former. It was a horrible feeling. Like sand flowing through her veins.
With a quick jerk of her head, as if a single shake of the head meaning “no,” Elli threw the person out, a wall being thrown in front of the intruder. As she took her mind back, Elli threw a smile towards her brother, a proud smile. She had never been the best at Occlumency, as she sometimes had trouble identifying when it was happening. However, her skills with the Imperius Curse were much better.
Perhaps it was because she was so aware of her body, that if someone else tried to control it, all it took was a flick of her thoughts and her head to send them off. But with Occlumency it was different. She had always struggled with clearing her mind, and it was hard for her to produce any sort of focused wall or shield, as she got so mixed up when someone else was rifling through her brain.
Even more frustrating was when Dom tried to give her tips and help her out. They were so different. Elli actually laughed in his face the first time he suggested putting the person in a lake, as he was accustomed to doing.
The warm feeling prickled at the top of her head, flowing downwards, like an egg cracked on the top of her head. She shivered and closed her eyes. Okay, Elli. You can do this. Nothing. Nothing. Noooothing. Her eyes squeezed shut as she grimaced, trying to find nothingness. Whiteness? No. Um. Okay, quick, Elli, think. Darkness. No, that’s not it. Come onnn her hands curled into fists and she stomped her foot. She began to feel her emotions intensified as the intruder latched onto them.
Her fingernails dug into her hands as the intruder swam deeper, starting to go through memories. Don’t let him do this, Ell! Quidditch. Class. Feast. Laughing with Dom. A kiss. WHAM.
Elli physically winced as the wall went up in her mind, having to take a step back to study herself. She opened her eyes to see the auror staring at her with an expression of surprise, with a hint of fear. He gave her a sharp nod and turned to talk to her parents.
See, Ell? You can do this. Just hope that every enemy wants to see you snogging.

Character's full name: makar phoenix germanotta Character's age: twenty-two House/Occupation: unemployed Ability applying for: animagus Roleplay sample:
Meditating was now becoming a constant in Makar's daily schedule. He did it when he couldn't think, when he couldn't sleep and just when he had some free time to kill. In this case, he was practicing this art out in the light of the moon as sleep just refused to come to him. The softest bed with the warmest blankets that money could buy gave him no comfort as he tossed and turned so he escaped his bed's warm embrace and went out into the cold.
As he thought upon his state of mind, he realized something. The young wizard was restless. Fidgety even. No one could keep calm and focused in a state like that and Makar knew it. He also knew what he had to do to get rid of it and bring his mind to a state of peace once again. As the animagus prepared himself for the shift, his mind wandered to what his old mentor said the day Makar was ready to give up his training.
It was actually a nice day, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. Meanwhile, Makar was raging and ranting. Not about how mother earth provided such a nice day for Japan but how he felt training to be an animagus was useless to his mentor. Despite having a specialty in Transfiguration and having graduated with honors in the subject, the training just wasn't clicking with him. Fukurou-san, the man that taught him, let him blow off steam before speaking. "Makar, what do you do when you feel restless?" It was a rhetorical question. The old man pressed on, not even letting the young wizard open his mouth. "Exercise? Swim? No matter what you do, it isn't enough. You stay in your human form and, while staying in that one form, there is still something there. Some emotion or thought that continuously clouds you. There is something different in your animal form. When you change forms, your mind changes as well. There is a freedom of mind that only an animal can feel. When you become an animagus, you unlock another self that frees you and lets you truly clear your mind. Only when you completely clear your mind can you achieve total self-control. Now, calm yourself and try again."
A deep breath out into the cool air calmed him. What the old man said was right, there was a sort of freedom that you could only feel while being an animal. It didn't mean he really liked it though but he did it. With a short huff, he stood up and leaped into the air. He willed himself to change forms right before his feet lifted up from the ground. In a matter of seconds, his bones shifted and his body changed until he was no longer human but horse. His body tingled from the shift nut it was nothing he wasn't used to. A quick shake of his head then he was off, galloping free. Power and strength rippled through his muscles each time one of his hooves touched the ground. He had to stop eventually but for now, Makar was free.

Character's full name: valyndiar mikhail kazimir Character's age: seventeen House/Occupation: Slytherin Ability applying for:Occulemency Roleplay sample: The door of the training room flung open and in stormed Kyleris Annabel Dolohov, followed by her father Antonin. Without warning the young Valyndiar could feel his mind being invaded and he could not stop the sudden slamming force. As his mother rifled through his mind, taking what she wanted. Upturning memories left and right, no clear purpose other then she could do it. The seven-year-old boy lay on the floor, tears streaming down his face as Kyleris turned to her father. “Is this truly necessary?” She asked, furious at what her father asked her to do, as her arms crossed over her ample bosom. Antonin glared at his daughter, a twisted smile tugging his lips. “Get up Valyndiar” he growls through clenched teeth. “I said get up boy” when the young Valyndiar did not scramble to his feet fast enough for his grandfather’s liking.
“You are going to learn a skill” his grandfather begins, a predatory gleam in his dark eyes as he walked in a wide circle around the trembling Val who tried to compose himself. “A skill that is most useful when a Legilimens, like your mother here tries to search your thoughts and emotions.” Antonin continued. The young Valyndiar cocked his head to the right confused. “I am?” he questioned, he shouldn’t have questioned, as he would then feel his mother rifling through his mind again. He thought he was being punished for something he had done, but he couldn’t remember what it was. Screams escape his mouth as he fought back against the intruder and a smile formed fully on Antonin’s mouth. “Excellent, you have fight in you”
“We begin, with the purpose of Occulemency. It means Valyndiar to shield the mind. Occlumency: is the act of magically closing one's mind against Legilimency. It is ancient art, it can prevent a Legilimens from accessing one's thoughts and feelings. Or influencing them. A person who practises this art is known as an Occlumens. Val struggled still as his mother attacked him. These lessons in Occulemency had been going on for near two months and he could hear his grandfather shouting “Ground and center, don’t just frown boy! Find the leaks and lock them down! Tame that talent wild!” He tried to think of nothing, nothing at to be empty and devoid, as if there was nothing but darkness that stretched inside his mind. Till finally he was mentally exhausted from trying to hold the barrage of his mother’s attacks back, collapsing on the floor; Valyndiar would feel the weight of his grandfathers boot on him and a snarl of “Yer not finished, I’ll say when! Though you might get somewhere some day” A compliment and a reprimand all at once. It was the equivalent of the dark wizard saying he was proud. The lessons would continue everyday for months, the months slowly slipped away into a year as he mastered the art of his thoughts being void, deflective to a Legilimens.
Then one night at dinner, the family had invited an old friend of Antonin’s to dinner. Thorfinn Rowle, was seated at the family table when Valyndiar entered the dining room for dinner. Little did he know this was another lesson that he had to pass this time. If he failed, his grandfather was prepared to torture Valyndiar to get his point across to his grandson who at times he thought was “As stubborn as a mule”. Funny how apples never fall far from the trees, is it not.
Thorfinn had been given a magic item; a fork to be precise, that while in his possession temporary gave him the ability to be a Legilimens. This char.ed item could only be used with a true legilimens in a room. Drawing on the source of power. Its purpose was for Valyndiar to be attacked simultaneously on two fronts. The meal began as any would, conversation and drink. Then Valyndiar felt the burning sensation. The sensation that felt like a hot tool was being applied to his flesh and slowly trying to rip back layers of skin. He cast his gaze at his mother a moment, but she was eating. No eye contact being made and yet his skin burned with fire.
Val’s heart would thrum fast as his teachings slipped into place. It was like a window slamming shut and locking down tight. The leaks of his mind plugging themselves tight, then another sharp pricking sensation, this time from his mother, attacking from another side. Diar drops his fork at the sudden dual attack, a smirk tugged on Thorfinn’s lips a moment and he took a drink of his wine. Slowly he chewed his food, thinking nothing at all, of how boring dinner was just like any other young boy. Truthfully he was terrified of the power but he fought to deflect it and then there was clapping. It took Val a long moment to realize the assault had stopped twenty mintues prior and he had been so focused he had not realized the attack was over
His grandfather smiled and clapped. “A toast to Valyndiar” he said raising his glass. “Diar, What you have, will now endure. You won’t break, now you'll bend. Forgive us, for what we had to do. Costly lesson. High the price, but you wont have to learn it twice.” A smile and a deep breath inside he felt elation. “I am an occulmens” he repeats silently to himself.
