Work, work, work. It was just another day at work. Fridays were quite special for the library. Bast had noticed that, on Fridays, a certain group could be seen in the library. Some checked out books to read over the weekend while others tried to finish up as much homework as possible so they could have more free time. Then were the loners and study groups. The people who didn't have some adventure or people to hang out with when they exited the place of books. The people who preferred studying rather than drinking butterbeer and playing around with friends. Or the people who just didn't like the company of others and decided to hide themselves in the comfort of the quiet library. Those people usually had to be shooed out by the librarian herself when she had to close up.
That was probably Bast's least favorite thing to do. She almost always liked the people who spent long amounts of time in her domain. They were usually quiet and not very troublesome to deal with. Returned their books on time and in one piece too. But she did it; she had to after all. The library was her main sleeping area and it was usually best if no one was there while cleaning up lest said one would mess up her cleaning. A quick announcement was all it took to get everyone out.
"Hey, guys? The library is closing now so if you could pack up your stuff and boot on out of here, that would make my day. Yes, really. Now get on out of here or I'll kick you out. Literally." Bast didn't even had to project her voice that loud. Of course, she would usually have to be a bit louder but she was more loose around this crowd. However, that didn't mean she wasn't serious about what she said. She was deadly serious about seriously kicking someone out. And by kicking someone out, she literally meant kicking someone out. Happily, the librarian had no need to do so as the people filed out of the room. She locked the door after the last person and started cleaning up. Now it was only her and her pets. Right?

Libraries were nice. Libraries were peaceful. Libraries, on the whole, weren't full of douchebags with their heads shoved up their arses (or there were, perhaps, douchebags that weren't displaying their douchebagginess instead). That's why Vienna was pretty content with sitting right in the corner, behind the many bookshelves, hiding in the shady darkness. Her appearance stood out against the dreary background but she still thought, although she didn't blend in, her hiding place was adequate enough.
She ignored the voices coming from the other areas of the room that fell silent again soon and busied herself with copying out potion ingredients from her textbook to help her memorise them. It wasn't the most enjoyable of tasks but it did a good job of passing the time and keeping the Ravenclaw occupied. Another page of the heavy book turned, making a rough noise as the pieces of parchment rubbed together, which always made Vienna wince in displeasure. Her brown eyes stared at the words for a minute and then she picked up her quill and made a note of them. Copying was a simple method of studying and one that was oddly effective for her. With other things, that wasn't the halfblood's sort of style.

The utter quietness of the Fish Domain was calming. Barely any sound could be hear besides the shuffling of footsteps, rustling of books and a few grumbles here and there. Pulling out her trusty wand, Oaktruckle, the librarian was ready to put the books away. The sorting and organization of the books was simple enough to understand but hard to master, especially if you were putting them away. It was slightly easier if you were just finding. Bast had the library shelves set up so that the different book subjects could be easily separated. One side of the library was fiction while the other, non-fiction. The non-fiction books were separated by the subjects they talked about. History in one area, potions in another and so on. Then, each subject was further organized by alphabetical order according to the book's author. It would be a whole lot simpler if she could have signs but nooo, it went against the library's traditions. It was the more traditional way to memorize where every single fucking book was.
So, that's what Bast learned and what Bast did. After about five minutes she did have to send both her pets out so she could work in absolute peace. After putting away some Herbology books, it was time for History. Great. Someone just had to leave out one of her older copies that called one of the darker sections of the library home. She always hated lighting up the lamps there because then she would have to turn them off again. Tiring but necessary. The librarian plodded along, lighting up the way as she went, and got to her destination. But then life decided to mess with her more. Bast heard scribbling, the sound of quill on parchment. First thought, ghost. Nah, that's be silly. Student or teacher? Much more likely. Moving along much more quietly now, she went to the back shelf and was greeted by the side of a student.
Said student was poring over a book and writing down something on parchment. Her robes said Ravenclaw while she seemed to be in perhaps her last year or two. Light blonde hair, cute face. Definitely Bast's type if she wasn't a student. Oh well... Time to get this show on the road. She stepped a bit closer towards the girl, squatted down and tucked away her wand. "Hey." The librarian smiled and gently tapped the (presumably) Ravenclaw's cheek with her finger. "The library's closed now, hon so what're you still doing here?"

Vienna didn't notice the soft footsteps headed towards where she was located in her cosy corner. In fact, the Ravenclaw was so immersed in her studies that she was unaware of the librarian's appearance even as she entered the student's vicinity. Clearly, it took a lot of concentration to correctly memorise these many ingredients and Vienna could do that; she wanted good grades so should could get her desired job as a healer as St Mungo's after her time at Hogwarts was up. This time next year she had no idea where she'd be - and that was a seriously scary thought.
Her head snapped up and Vienna's grip on her quill tightened considerably when she heard a voice from right beside her. Visibly uncomfortable with the contact, she flinched at the touch of the older woman's finger on her cheek. The blonde shuffled over on her chair, leaving extra space between her and the librarian. "I wasn't aware that it was shut. I'm just finishing up, so please don't nag at me to get out immediately." Vienna's eyes remained glued to her book as she forced out a distant, cold reply. It was the truth, and she'd said 'please'. That was as good as it got with her and socialisation.

Oh dear, Bast couldn't help but smile further at the girl's reactions. She was definitely one of the loners. A quiet one that was bad with people and better with books. Kind of obvious with her cold reply and visible dislike of human touch. The librarian could relate. She studied a lot in her last year with the hopes of passing at least one of her NEWTs. In the end, she passed three of the tests and that was good enough for her. "Hmm... Normally I don't let students stay but I'm feeling rather lenient today." She'd let her stay but that would come with a price. The woman quietly emphasized her 'I's to show that she had power over the situation. This girl would have to suffer through teasing if she wanted to say. "I'll allow you to stay and finish up your work so feel free to take as long as you like. When you are done I'll let you out and escort you back to your common room, kay? Now what's your house, year and name?"
Bast then took the opportunity to sit on the empty space of the chair this Ravenclaw was sitting on. Apparently there's little to no personal space when there's a Fishy around. The librarian was all up in the girl's face. The librarian draped her upper body over the desk and gazed at the girl next to her. Light brown eyes, kinda odd but pretty. A small sigh escaped her lips and she turned her head back to the desk, reminding herself of the rules she made when she got the job. One of the major ones was no personal relations with the students. And that kinda sucked since there were so many good students around. "Grah..."
