She knew the castle tended to get chillier at night but it had been reasonably warm today and she'd expected the heat to continue somewhat into the night. She had, apparently, been wrong, and so it was with a sigh that she pulled her cardigan tighter around her. Now not only did she have to concern herself with not getting caught out of bed, but also not freezing to death. This might have been a bad idea, Dani thought, looking over her shoulder, back the way she came. The Hufflepuff common room was a long way off now, and it seemed pointless for this to have been a waste of a journey, so she continued walking forward. She had, originally, been keeping herself occupied with writing a letter to her parents. Unable to sleep, and incredibly bored, it had seemed like the best idea at the time. Long after the last few students had dragged themselves off to bed Dani had been wide awake, writing away on a bit of parchment about being back at Hogwarts and how she was, the things she missed about being at home. It wasn't a long letter and she'd finished it within an hour, re-reading it a few times to check what she'd written was okay. The plan had been to then go to sleep, it was much later than she should have stayed up and she knew she was going to wake up late tomorrow, but sleep was still escaping her and so, after having quickly scribbled down her home address on an envelope and carefully putting the letter inside, she found herself walking to the owlery. Walking around Hogwarts at night was always a little creepier and she found she had to be much more careful, getting caught out of bed was never a good thing from what she'd been told. Now, as she climbed the stairs of the tower, she found herself relieved that she'd managed to get here without much hassle. It was one thing she desperately missed about being back at home, at least there she could walk around at night without getting into trouble although her parents weren't always so keen on the idea of their daughter wandering around the streets of London at one in the morning. It probably wasn't the safest time to be walking around, she'd admit, but Dani was always careful and kept her wand on her at all times. She felt safe. Reaching the top of the tower and, to her joy, feeling more than a little exhausted, Dani took hold of her wand, whispering, "Lumos," under her breath. It was quite dark in the actual tower, the only real light provided by the night sky, and it made it difficult to see anything in here. Not having an owl of her own, Dani often borrowed her sister's, and tonight was no different. "Snuff! snuffles," she called out, keeping her voice reasonably low, as she located at her sister's scops owl and held her hand out for him to fly down to. The owl looked down at her, making no move to come down from his perch and they both stared at each other, Dani scowling ever so slightly, before Snuffles turned away from her. "Dammit you stupid owl come down here," she hissed out, cursing her sister for having an owl that was as stubborn as she was. When the small bird continued to ignore her, Dani huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Of course she knew it would be easier to use one of the school's own owls but, in all honesty, they sort of scared her. At least Imogen's owl was small in size, the others all seemed much larger by comparison and the thought of trying to give one of them her letter was almost terrifying. Then again, if Snuffles wouldn't behave, she supposed she would have no other choice. "Stupid owl, why must you be so difficult," she muttered under her breath for a second time, glaring at him. that perfection is your friend |
